Metaphor

"Water splashed off the desert and ran all over the surface, looking for the quickest way down. It was too swift for the ground to absorp .when water flows like this, it will not be clean tap water. It will be a gravy debris, snatching everything it finds."
The sentence above really conveys an excellent meaning using the sense of metaphor in the word combination marked red. Haiving read chapter 32 of of the English 103 textbook, I immediately understood that comparing and contrasting really plays crucial role in elucidating the issue and assisting in writing.
Metaphor, sure enough, seems one of the best ways for me to increase the efficiency of my writing.Using metaphor one can summarize the whole idea, paragraph or whole assignment,by just bringing up a sentence or two.
Looking back to the above metaphor the writher Craig Childs expressed his whole sentence by just reffering to a gravy debris. He could have just brought up the last sentence changing the subject to water that could have still made the perfect sense. In other words, the last sentence totally reflects the idea of the first two sentences.
Therefore, use metaphor not only for excellent writing, but for outstanding ideas as well.
