The Great Debate-ISOM 135

Many professors have outlawed laptop usage in the classroom because they think it is disturbing for the overall class - the professor as well as students.Eletromic device can disrupt the learning environment of the class and can be used for other purposes other than learning and studying. In the past years proctors had to watch wether the students are not copying from each other or from the hidden scratches or paper. However, with the advent of modern technology this issue is getting more and more complex because recently it has been noticed that students have been caught using text messages, camera phones to cheat on the exam or have it forwarded to those students who are scheduled to take it later. Some schools have gone so far as installing electronic equipments that detect the wireless internet during the tests.
This is really a great issue confronting new generation because if students are deprived of technology than they feel discouraged and if they use it then they disturb the classses. As the result the question is whether the school should get rid of this hi- tech methods of cheating or not?
In my personal opinion ,they should be gotten rid of because classes are definitely more important in our life than just using internet whereas we could use the internet after the class ends. The other argument is that it dulls the knowledge and diminish the quality of the students' knowledge. Better study for the test and be equipped with knowledge for future career rather than using it and depriving yourself of brilliant career. Thus, I am really supportive of the elimination of laptop usage during class if it creates the issue for the overall success of the class. The point which would be helpful as a compromise for students and school to be in harmony is to explain the students that it is to their own good and it simply deprives them of computers only during the class hour whereas they could have the rest of the day to surf on the net or use it for other purposes.
